Marla has been creating music since before she could talk! “She would always be humming or singing a melody even as an infant” according to her Father, Frank Graziano, “ She was born
with the gift of music.”
Marla comes from a very musical family as well. Her father has a great singing voice and her deceased Uncle Dominick Graziano was an Opera Singer. Her deceased Uncle Joseph Graziano was a
singer that would leave you amazed with his likeness to the great crooners, especially Dean Martin. Her deceased Uncle Albert Graziano also was a great singer naturally. Marla’s Aunts
Marie Forthofer (nee Graziano) and Phyllis Maselli (nee Graziano) are also beautiful singers that won a singing competition on the radio back in the 1950s. Although none of
the Graziano Boys and Girls made their living in music officially, you can bet that the Christmas get togethers around the piano (with Marla playing and singing along) was a festival of music, and
not just every day caliber, this was amazing stuff!
Marla Graduated from The Ohio State University in 1988 with a BA in Interpersonal Communication. “I chose this major which had an emphasis on public speaking, specifically to help me on stage
after graduation,” says Marla.
After graduation, Marla moved out to Boston, Massachusetts to pursue her music. She had some relatives out there willing to help her get on her feet with a place to stay so she decided to try
it. It was hard times but great times, singing in the subways of Boston to make a few bucks occasionally and taking any bar gig she could get once she purchased her first Kurzweil Keyboard to
try to go out and make a living doing what she loved! She made her first recording of an all original song that she wrote with her cousin Dominic Zocchi called “Hold On Tight” which was very
pop oriented and in the same genre as Gloria Estefan and the Miami Sound Machine back in the late 80’s. Not much came of that since she had no money to produce anything else professionally she
had to get a “real” job and use her degree. She began a career in Annuities and Retirement planning with Keyport Life Insurance Company in Boston MA which launched a very successful career in
the field of Retirement planning and wholesaling annuities for the past 28 years.
While living in Boston for 8 years, she was lead singer and keyboardist in a band called Fallout where she played all over New England. She was starting to make great musical contacts with
players from J. Geils Band and other big named groups (her bass player in Fallout for a period of time was also playing with J. Geils). But in 1996 her Grandma Robbin (mother’s mom) was
fighting lung cancer so she decided to move home to Cleveland Ohio to be closer to her. It ended up being a great move for her music career unbeknownst to her.
She joined a working wedding band called “Soundwave” in Cleveland where she was lead singer for several years working almost every weekend and really getting her voice in shape. But singing in
a wedding band was NOT fulfilling enough for Marla, so she auditioned for a Pink Floyd Tribute band in town called “Wish You Were Here” and landed the job as one of the backup singers. This
band introduced her to her husband, Mark Brennan and really opened up the music doors for her career locally.
In 1998 she met a great local singer songwriter, Mike Shields, and they began a collaboration which still goes on today. They created and produced a full length 11 song CD titled “Fade Away”
along with the help of Mark Brennan who produced the CD.
Singing with “Wish You Were Here” gave Marla great visibility as this band is very popular and sells out venues such as the House of Blues on a regular basis, and is still going strong after 21
years!
Marla was called to backup some big name artists in 2005 at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. She backed up Martha Reeves (Dancin’ in the Street and Heatwave) Mark Farner from Grand Fund Railroad
(Some kind of Wonderful and We’re an American Band), Terry Sylvester from The Hollies (He Ain’t Heavy and Long Cool Woman) , Andy Kim (Rock Me Gently, Be my little baby) and many others who shared
the bill such as Badfinger (No Matter what) , Eddie Holman (Hey there Lonely girl) and the Nelson Twins, Matthew and Gunner who did a tribute to their late father, Ricky Nelson.
She also backed up in 2009 ( for a fundraiser concert for the Rock Hall induction ceremony for Ronnie Spector) Denise Williams (Let’s hear it for the boy) and Taste of Honey (Boogie Oogie Oogie,
Sukiyaki) sharing the stage all evening with an all-star band which was led by Paul Shaffer and Will Lee from The David Letterman show as well as members of Peter Frampton’s band and Billy Joel’s
band and other artists that evening such as Billy Squier, Russell Tompkins Jr. (Stylistics), Tone Loc, and Ronnie Spector.
Marla’s biggest songwriting influences would be from the 70’s singer songwriter era…Carole King, The Carpenters, The Eagles, James Taylor…as well as the vocal divas like Whitney Houston, Mariah
Carey, Heart, Pat Benatar and Aretha Franklin.
She can adapt her songs to any situation, including film, tv, Country, R&B and inspirational.
She currently writes music full time and sings locally with “Wish You Were Here” and has a professional home studio with her husband Mark Brennan in Fairview Park, Ohio, where they produce music for
local singer songwriters.
